Moving into a new home often means a fresh start, and what better way than with new, family and environmentally friendly, clean- up techniques. Alas, all you need is a bag of lemons!
Did you know the acid in lemon juice removes dirt and rust stains? And, it’s especially effective when mixed with salt, which makes “an excellent scouring paste,” says Karyn Siegel-Maier, author of The Naturally Clean Home. You can also use them to clean your countertops by dipping the cut side of a lemon half in baking soda, rubbing it on the counters, then follow with a wet sponge and dry.
To remove tough food stains from light wood and plastic cutting boards, just slice a lemon in half, squeeze onto the soiled surface, rub, and let sit for 20 minutes before rinsing.

Spring is in the air, and some of Houston’s most pleasant evenings are upon us. What better time to plan an informal, alfresco dinner party for friends and family? Here are a few basic tips to help you pull-off your event in style.
If children are invited to the festivities, plan creative ways to keep them entertained. A table just for little hands is a good idea, especially if you can cover it with butcher paper and create a free-to-touch centerpiece made of rye grass and crayons – this way they can draw to their hearts' content.
To help keep the Texas size flying pests at bay, and keep your guests cool, run a fan near your dining area. You may also want to fill decorative glass bowls, flowerpots or baskets with natural insect repellent such as eucalyptus and citronella oils and designate a place, away from the food, where guests can mist themselves with repellents.
