Humble ISD Receives Generous Grant for New "Green" School Buses

At the 2011 Clean Fleet Technologies Conference, Humble ISD was presented with nearly $3 million to purchase 27 propane-fueled school buses. “Texas Railroad Commissioner David Porter presented a check for $2,925,184.30 to Charles Cunningham, Humble ISD’s Board of Trustees vice president on October 19.” The grant money was provided by the Texas Railroad Commission, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and the Texas Parent Teacher Association.

According to its press release, Humble ISD will save $75,000 per year on fuel. This change will also allow Humble ISD children to breathe cleaner air, with less pollution than traditional buses. This year’s conference was hosted by the Houston-Galveston Area Council and featured Humble Mayor Donald McMannes, Representative Dan Huberty, and University of Houston professor Dan Cassler as keynote speakers.
