Houston Family YMCA Offers After-School Programs

With so many uncertain choices for afterschool care, there is one place that shines above the others in both reputation and quality. The Lake Houston Family YMCA’s will be offering after-school programs to be held at elementary schools throughout Atascocita, Humble, Huffman, Kingwood and Splendora ISD’s.
“Our after-school program is available to all students’ kindergarten through fifth grade and is usually held at the school they attend. The great thing about this is that the kids have a safe place to be and they do not go home to an empty house,” Carol Sutton, marketing director at the Lake Houston Family YMCA, said.
The after school programs offers a wide variety of activities for the participants, such as games, recreation, arts and humanities programs, character development and homework assistance – all at very affordable rates. And, for those hit hardest by the economic down-turn, the YMCA offers some financial assistance through its Partners campaign, which raises money at different events throughout the year to help families afford programs.
“The after-school program is a different approach to child care because we offer a positive and praising type of environment that encourages the children to feel good about doing the right things,” Brian Carrico, child care director, said. “We help the kids to learn through example with positive activities and also help them to become more active with our recreation programs.”
